Dave Crossland - New Recording & Giggin' in LA

Hello Beautiful World,

Got two news items for you, and an upcoming gig to tell you about...

It's time for a new recording!  Tom Polce will be producing it, and we'll be taking over the House of Blues Studio in Encino next month to lay down the tracks.  I's a project I've wanted to do my whole life: a collection of songs by John Stewart.  I'm really excited about this.  John captured an American essence in a way I've not heard from any other songwriter, and he was a huge influence on me growing up.  I'll be sending out another newsletter soon with more details...

I should also tell you about my Midwest adventure back in July.  I went back to Ohio, where my dad has a "for sale" sign in front of the house he's lived in since I was three.  I set out to write an entire album's worth of material in one week, and I just may have done it.  I didn't leave Ohio with twelve perfectly polished works ready to play out, but I got a couple of those, and a huge pile of mostly-written stuff that needs to be flushed out.  It's a ton of material that needs editing.  Day-to-day life in Southern Cal has let that slip a little bit, so I'm considering another week in the Buckeye State to dive in and sew it all up.  What do you think?

Those are my two big news items.  Life in LA continues to be full of amazing views, fascinating people, ticklish serendipity, frothy coffee drinks, responsible driving, and an ever-unfolding kaleidoscope of air quality.  Been here a year now and still diggin' it.

Been looking at the map too, and a calendar.  If anyone wants to help set up some gigs for 2010, let me know.  I'm looking to do some traveling with a new CD in tow...

In the meantime, got a gig next Friday.  I'll be playing in Hollywood with most of my brothers from the John Stewart Band.  Come on down or send your minions~

Hope to see you soon.

With love,

p.s.  By the way, John Hoke of the JS Band will not be at the Genghis gig.  Instead, he'll be in Laguna Beach with author Ray Bradbury and their new musical, Merry Christmas 2116.  It debuts tonight!  Here's the link -->  http://gallimaufry.org/nowshowing_bradbury.html
